Murray Fire officials said a 10-year-old boy playing with fireworks Sunday sparked a blaze that burned most of a garage and briefly threatened the family's home.

Murray Fire Marshall Phil Roberts said his agency and members of the Unified Fire Authority and Midvale Fire responded to a call at 1223 W. Riverhouse Circle (6270 S.) in Murray shortly after 1 p.m. The youth, who lives at that address, had been setting off fireworks, some of which ended up in a garbage can near the attached garage. The fire started there and spread to the garage.

Roberts said the fire caused about $15,000 in damage and burned close to the home's attic before it was extinguished.
