• My Wife and Kids (7 p.m., Ch. 4): Jay goes back to college.

• Ed (7 p.m., Ch. 5): Series star Tom Cavanagh directed this episode in which Ed, Mike and Warren all pursue their impossible dreams.

• Enterprise (7 p.m., Ch. 24): Well, here's an original idea (NOT!) — the Enterprise comes upon a ship whose crew is acting like a bunch of crazies.

• It's All Relative (7:30 p.m., Ch. 4): If last week's bad premiere left any doubt in your mind, this week's bad episode clearly demonstrates that this is a bad show.

• Smallville (7 p.m., Ch. 30): Jonathan goes to Metropolis to try to bring Clark home.

• King of Queens (8 p.m., Ch. 2): Doug and Carrie fight it out in Ping-Pong.

• The West Wing (8 p.m., Ch. 5): The president tabs a new veep (Gary Cole).

• Jake 2.0 (8 p.m., Ch. 24): Jake falls for a girl he's supposed to be getting information out of.

• Angel (8 p.m., Ch. 30): If last week's excellent season premiere left any doubt in your mind, this week's excellent episode clearly demonstrates that this show is at the top of its game. Spike's sudden reappearance is explained.

• Becker (8:30 p.m., Ch. 2): Here's a lesson in TV as a business. CBS dropped this show last spring, but put it back on the schedule (at least in large part) because (1) it's produced by Paramount; (2) both CBS and Paramount are owned by Viacom; and (3) the show needed some more episodes so that it would have enough in the can to enter the lucrative syndication market. (Oh, and after being reinstated as a midseason replacement show, "Becker" got pushed up to a fall launch when CBS had problems with a new sitcom, "The Stones," that was originally slated to air here. That show has been pushed back to midseason.) In the sixth-season opener, Becker (Ted Danson) and Chris (Nancy Travis) confront their feelings.

• Karen Sisco (9 p.m., Ch. 4): Danny DeVito (who is one of the principles at the company that produces this show) and his wife, Rhea Perlman, guest star.

• Law & Order (9 p.m., Ch. 5): A murder investigation is linked to the SARS epidemic.
