SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah County — The sheriff's office is investigating a Sunday afternoon accidental shooting of a teenage boy.

A boy, possibly 14, was shooting with other people in the "clay pits," which are popular for target practicing, Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Owen Shiverdecker said.

A small-caliber handgun went off while someone was reloading it, Shiverdecker said. The boy was hit in the leg and received minor wounds.

People with the boy drove him to Jordan Valley Hospital in West Jordan. The hospital called the Utah County Sheriff's Office about 3:30 p.m. The boy was treated and released, Shiverdecker said.
