JULY 18

• Lori and and Mark attend a housewarming party in Bountiful.

JULY 19

• Early morning: Mark Hacking tells family that his wife Lori has gone missing during a jog in Memory Grove.

• 10 a.m. — The owner of Bradley's Sleep Etc. says Mark Hacking walked into his store just before 10 a.m. to buy a mattress and two pillows.

• 10:49 a.m. — Mark Hacking calls 911 to report his wife had disappeared, police say. When police arrive at Memory Grove, Mark Hacking is already there. An intensive search begins, involving police, family, friends and volunteers.

JULY 20

• 2 a.m. — Mark Hacking reportedly was picked up by police at the Chase Suite Hotel, after police dispatchers took a call about a "disturbance." Family members subsequently say Mark Hacking was checked into a psychiatric unit at the University of Utah Medical Center.

• Thousands of volunteers join the search for Lori Hacking in the Memory Grove/City Creek Canyon area. Their numbers will fluctuate over the coming days.

JULY 21

• Mark Hacking becomes a person of interest after it is discovered that he had deceived his family for two years, leading them to believe he graduated from the University of Utah and was accepted to medical school in North Carolina.

JULY 24

• The search for Lori Hacking leads to a municipal landfill and includes the use of cadaver dogs, police confirm.

• Sources confirm to the Deseret Morning News that a blood-stained knife with hair attached to it was included in evidence seized from the Hacking home. Police evidence technicians collect a clump of hair from a trash bin at a Chevron gas station at the corner of 2100 South and 300 West.

JULY 25

• More than 3,000 people turn out to distribute fliers and join the search for Lori Hacking — the largest turnout since her disappearance. Later, about 200 people attend a candlelight vigil at Memory Grove Park.

JULY 26

• It's confirmed that Mark Hacking has hired Utah defense attorney D. Gilbert Athay. Lori Hacking's colleagues at Wells Fargo Securities Services say she left work early Friday, July 16, in tears, after receiving an upsetting phone call.
