— Kevin Garnett, Timberwolves, had 21 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists and made two free throws with 5.9 seconds left to give Minnesota a 83-82 win over Dallas.

— Jamaal Magloire, Hornets, had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead New Orleans to its first win of the season, 76-75 over Utah.

CLOSE CALLS

Minnesota rallied from a 12-point deficit in the final 4:27 and beat Dallas 83-82 Monday night. The Timberwolves led for a total of 26.5 seconds in the game. ... Bonzi Wells scored 26 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with less than a minute left, to lead Memphis over San Antonio 93-90.

ALONE AT THE BOTTOM

Chicago fell to 0-9 after losing to Phoenix 100-82 Monday night. The Bulls are the NBA's only winless team and matched a franchise record for consecutive losses to start a season set in 1967-68. New Orleans, which entered the night 0-8, beat Utah 76-75.
