Fish report

ROCKPORT — Ice fishing is coming to an end. Ice conditions are deteriorating quickly. The edges along the shoreline are treacherous. Use extreme caution if venturing out on the ice.

WEBER RIVER — The area between Wanship and Coalville is active with fishermen. Fishing success continues to be good. The limit on this section is two trout and artificial fly or lure only.

STRAWBERRY— Most anglers report good ice and only a little slush. Slush will soon become a problem for ATVs and snowmobiles with the warmer weather. Ice depth varies with reports of 12 to 20 inches on the Strawberry side and 6-plus inches on the Soldier Creek side. Reports of success vary. Some report red hot action for rainbow while others report only fair success. Location is the key. Move to a new location if you aren't getting a strike. Remember, all cutthroat between 15 and 22 inches must be returned to water.

JORDANELLE — Fair to good success reported. Perch limit has been raised to 50 fish this year. Bass limit is 6. All bass over 12 inches must be immediately released.

PROVO RIVER — The section below Olmstead is closed through May 1 from Utah Lake State Park entrance to I-15 to protect spawning walleye. Fishing success is good east from I-15 using standard Provo River flies size 18-22. Worms are a good bet as well.

DEER CREEK — Reports of fair success from shore for two-plus-pound rainbows. Power Bait or a worm/marshmallow combination have been the most popular baits. Reservoir is mostly open water. Boat ramps are available for launching.

FLAMING GORGE — Mustang ramp is open with no ice for several miles up-reservoir. Antelope and Lucerne ramps were open, however boaters were breaking some ice at Lucerne to reach open water. Sheep Creek ramp has frozen over with patches of open water in the bay. The reservoir was frozen from the Pipeline north with fishable ice from Anvil Draw north. Ice fishing from Buckboard to the Confluence remains good for two- to four-pound lake trout over the river channel. Many of these fish are suspended from 30 to 50 feet deep, so a graph is invaluable to present the lure at the proper depth. Try three-inch jigs tipped with sucker meat or a minnow. There have been reports of larger lake trout caught in the Anvil Draw area, and good boat fishing in Linwood Bay and Stateline, although pressure has been light. Look for fish 50 to 90 feet deep over points and along the river channel.

GREEN RIVER — Occasional midge and small baetis hatches are providing limited surface action, particularly in the Little Hole area. Good nymph patterns include olive, tan or pink scuds, size 10 to 16; San Juan Worms in size 12 to 14; bead head midge in sizes 16 to 22, pheasant tails in sizes 16 to 20, and Glo Bugs. For streamer fishing, try brown, tan or olive Wooly Buggers, size 26. Spin fishermen should try small Rapalas; spinners; black, brown or olive Marabou jigs; and tube jigs.
