Hurricane Katrina cleanup developments
• Cadaver dogs and boatloads of forensic workers fan out across New Orleans to collect corpses left behind by the hurricane. Cleanup crews tow away abandoned cars and even begin readying a hotel for reopening.
• Thousands of residents continue to defy orders to leave the city, but security forces were not physically forcing anyone to go. Mayor Ray Nagin warned earlier that residents could be forcibly removed, but authorities have been reluctant to do so.
• The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says most of the city could be drained within a month, though some areas hit by the storm surge could take longer. Those estimates are far shorter than early predictions.
• The Biloxi, Miss., harbor reopens to limited commercial traffic for the first time since the hurricane. Many fishing and shrimping boats also returned for the first time after being docked in protected waters.
