Travelers at Salt Lake International adjusting to new rules
The long lines of Thursday gave way to smoother experiences for travelers Friday at Salt Lake City International Airport, says Ron Malin, the federal security director for the Transportation Security Administration.
"It's busy because of summer vacation time, but the impact of the liquid ban is going much better today," Malin said Friday afternoon.
When this week's airline terror plot was revealed, British and American authorities told passengers that liquids and gels can no longer be carried on board. The expanded ban covers such things as shampoo, toothpaste, contact lens solution, perfume and water bottles. The only exceptions: baby formula and medications, which must be presented for security inspection.
At the Salt Lake airport, the most frequently discarded items Friday were water bottles, but otherwise passengers already seem to be packing better, Malin said.
