Forest areas affected by off-road proposal
Off-road travel is restricted on approximately 735,943 acres of the Dixie National Forest. Approximately 1,150,113 acres are currently open for off-road travel. The motorized travel plan project area includes the Pine Valley, Cedar City, Powell and Escalante Ranger districts, as well as the Teasdale portion of the Fremont River Ranger District now administered by the Fishlake National Forest.
Existing condition (in total miles) national forest roads within the Dixie National Forest 2,379 miles of authorized routes; 1,226 miles of unauthorized routes.
Proposed action (in total miles) national forest roads within the Dixie National Forest (five districts) 2,606 miles of authorized routes; 402 miles of unauthorized routes. All routes not designated to the motorized travel system will be considered unauthorized routes and motorized use of those routes will be illegal.
