'Peter Pan,' 'The Rant' are onstage this week
Also, touring show features comedy, dance and jugglers
• PETER PAN, the Broadway musical version of James M. Barrie's beloved adventure tale, opens Friday at the Egyptian Theatre in Park City, where it continues through Dec. 29.
Adrianne Moore is directing the Egyptian Theatre Company production, featuring a cast of familiar players from both sides of the Wasatch Front.
Equity actor Mark Gollaher plays both Captain Hook and Mr. Darling, with Justin Ivie cast as both Nana, the Darling family's protective English sheepdog, and Smee, one of Hook's pirates, and Christopher Glade as another pirate, Cecco.
Others in leading roles include Molly Jackson as Peter Pan, Allison Robbins as Wendy, Brett Armstrong as John, Quinn Lewis-Humlicek as Michael, Angela Jeffries as Mrs. Darling, Kim Stephenson as Tiger Lily, Deedee Riches as Lisa and Jason Craig West as the Crocodile.
Other pirates include Rocky A. Revels, Derrick Dean, Thomas Marcus, Lee C. Fobert and Renny Richmond. Peter's "Lost Boys" will be played by Jesus Hernandez, John Dwyer, Drew Kenniston, Tad D'Agostino, Noah Cohen and Gracie Brietic.
Except for the opening night performance, which starts at 8 p.m., all evening performances are 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays, with Saturday matinees at 2 p.m. on Dec. 8, 15, 22 and 29. There will also be a special "meet Santa" party prior to the Dec. 8 matinee (additional charge). • THE RANT, a new drama by Brooklyn playwright Andrew Case, is the next offering in Salt Lake Acting Company's New Play Sounding Series on Monday at 7 p.m. at 168 W. 500 North.
Actor-playwright Paul Kiernen is directing a cast of readers that includes Toni Lynn Byrd, Alexandra Harbold, Brien K. Jones and Peter Melhuse, with Tracie Merrill as stage manager and narrator.
"The Rant" is set in the complex world of justice and race, touching on cops, cover-ups and "a jaundiced press." A 16-year-old black boy is shot and killed on his own porch by a New York City policeman. The boy's mother insists it is murder. An investigator for a civilian board looking into police misconduct believes her and takes her suspicions to a newspaper reporter, who agrees to run the woman's story.
"The Rant" delves into a maze of perception, bias and fear after a white officer is accused of the shooting and his black partner is less than forthcoming in his testimony.
