The winners and the losers
• Winner: Given the often-corrupting influence of stardom, we're not sure whether making a 13-year-old the next big thing in country music is good, but there is no denying that Katelyn Jolley of Clinton is worthy of that title.
Jolley has survived to the final round of County Music Television's "Music City Madness." The next stop is Nashville and a chance for a big contract. We wish her well.
• Loser: Sorry, the No Child Left Behind law has a lot of flaws, but it can't reasonably be made a major factor in rising obesity rates among American children. That's the bizarre premise of a documentary directed by a young Utahn best known for a film about Michael Moore's visit to Utah Valley State College.
If it were true, obesity rates would have spiked after the law was passed. In truth, obesity rates are climbing both here and in other nations that have no such law because of a variety of factors.
