• Call ahead, especially to eat in Park City. Many restaurants are rented out for private parties during Sundance, and those that are open often are packed to the rafters. At pricier destinations, reservations are essential.

• To take the edge off Park City prices, try going to a more expensive restaurant for lunch, if it's open during those hours.

• Don't bother driving in Park City. Take advantage of free festival shuttle buses. Park City's regular free citywide public transit system also has additional bus service during the festival. Maps and schedules are available locally and at www.parkcity.org.

• Parking also is an issue in downtown Salt Lake City, especially with the big lots at Crossroads Plaza and the ZCMI Center reduced to rubble. Paid lots abound, or you can call ahead to your restaurant for parking advice, as many validate at certain lots.

• Seek restaurants with flexible hours that can accommodate the sometimes irregular eating schedule of festival attendees.
