Utah Flash notebook: Boston reassigns Pruitt to Utah
Flash general manager David Fredman said that with the Celtics' improving health and their recent signing of veteran point guard Sam Cassell, Utah has been expecting Pruitt to be reassigned for a while.
"We're looking forward to having him back," Fredman said. "In his development, the Celltics figure he needs to play instead of being an insurance policy."
The week that was
The Flash played just one game this week, when they hosted the Anaheim Arsenal on Friday night.
In front of a record crowd of 6,248, Utah seemed headed for defeat. The Flash fell behind by 11 points with just 2:33 to go, but they roared back to score 14 of the final 17 points of regulation to force overtime.
Utah took control in the extra period, winning 103-99. They improved to 18-17 on the year, two games behind the Fort Wayne Mad Ants for the last playoff spot.
"That was one of the best comebacks I've ever seen in all my years in pro basketball," Fredman said. "I was really proud of our guys about the way they competed for 48 minutes."
Flash coach Brad Jones has stressed that every game is extremely important in this part of the season because Utah has just 15 more games to make a run at the playoffs.
Friday's comeback win over 13-22 Anaheim is even more important after factoring in Utah's tough schedule this week, which will make wins tough to come by.
The Flash will play three games on the road against the teams with the best records in the NBA Development League, as Utah looks to improve on their 6-10 road record.
"We're playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 teams, in my opinion, in the entire D-League," Jones said. "We want to be in the playoffs and be considered a winning team. This week will help establish that, because we're going to have to figure out how to get some wins on the road, if we're going to make the playoffs."
First up is a pair of games against the Idaho Stampede over the weekend. Idaho has a record of 26-9, the best in the D-League.
The games will be played on Friday and Saturday, with both games starting at 7 p.m. MT.
The Flash then travel to play the Los Angeles D-Fenders, who have a record of 23-11, which is tied for second best in the D-League.
The game against Los Angeles will be played at 5:30 p.m. MT.
