Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints want their members to attend political caucuses tonight.

In a statement from the First Presidency read to church members throughout Utah on Sunday, church leaders said any ward or stake meetings should not conflict with the important meetings.

Precinct caucuses are the most fundamental grass-roots level of political involvement in Utah. Those who attend caucuses not only play a critical role in nominating candidates, but also in setting the stage for party and public policy, the statement read.

The church statement also reiterated that principles compatible with the gospel may be found in the platforms of all major political parties. While the church does not endorse political candidates, platforms, or parties, members are urged to be full participants in political, governmental, and community affairs.

Both the Democratic and Republican parties will elect delegates and officers for county and state conventions. Caucus meetings will be held at a variety of locations, including schools, businesses and homes.

To find your caucus location or obtain more information, contact the Utah Democratic Party at 801-328-1212 or utdemocrats.org or the Utah Republican Party at 801-533-9777 or utgop.org.
