Responding to a recent SI.com report that the NBA is considering expanding its use of replay to include 3-point line vs. 2-point shot calls near the end of games, Jazz coach Jerry Sloan turned his thumb up Tuesday.

"Whatever is good for the league," Sloan said. "I don't have a problem with it one way or the other.

"I think all those things, you're always skeptical of change," he added. "But I think the league has done a good job trying to get things where they're comfortable with it, and always improving it."

Sloan has no problem with the one replay tool already in use: end-of the-quarter reviews regarding time clock issues, when necessary.

"I think that's worked out fine," he said. "I don't think there's been any problem with it. You know, they make a decision — and you go on to the locker room or go back to the bench, whatever the case may be."

As for the idea of a coach being able to challenge a call NFL-style, at any point during a game, Sloan seemed a bit more hesitant.

"I'm sure some people would use it as a coaching ploy at times," he said. "I don't know. I'd have to see it in action. You can talk about it all you want, but when you get out there on the floor and start playing and start making decisions — that's when you find out what you've got.

"That's one good thing about the D-League," the Jazz coach added with reference to the NBA Development League. "They've got the ability to be able to put new ideas into the game and see if it's gonna work and be productive for our league."

BOBCAT MADNESS: The Jazz's opponent Tuesday night, Charlotte, has a league-high six members on a list of what ESPN.com says is 35 currently active NBA players who have won NCAA basketball championships.

The half-dozen Bobcats: Derek Anderson (Kentucky, 1996); Nazr Mohammed (Kentucky, '96 and 1998); Jason Richardson (Michigan, 2000); Emeka Okafor (Connecticut, 2004); Raymond Felton and Sean May (North Carolina, 2005).

The Jazz have just one, Carlos Boozer of Duke's 2001 title team.

HE SAID IT: Charlotte coach Sam Vincent, on the Jazz out-rebounding his Bobcats 49-28: "They had 20 offensive rebounds, and I keep telling the guys that's not athleticism, and that's not skill. That's just commitment to hard work, boxing out, and it doesn't have anything to do with size, strength or anything."

OW: Bobcats big man Ryan Hollis exited in the fourth quarter with a bloody nose.

"(Boozer) just popped me in the right spot," Hollis said.

ALLRED SIGNS: Cleveland on Tuesday signed center Lance Allred to a second 10-day contract.

The undrafted East High and Weber State product who also played at the University of Utah worked out for just one team — the Jazz — prior to the 2005 NBA Draft.

The Cavaliers signed him from Idaho of the D-League earlier this month, and decided to keep him around for a second 10-day stint in part because veteran center Ben Wallace is bothered by back spasms.

Allred is scoreless with one shot attempt and no rebounds in his first two career NBA games.

MISC.: With two full days off in between games, Jazz radio play-by-play man Hot Rod Hundley left for Arizona to watch his alma mater, West Virginia, play in the NCAA Tournament. Hundley said he couldn't remember the last time he's seen his Mountaineers play in person. ... After Tuesday's win, the Jazz and Bobcats have split all four of their season series. ... With losses only to Houston, Portland, Boston and the Los Angeles Lakers, the Jazz have not lost to a sub-.500 team at home this season. ... Charlotte absentees included Anderson (personal reasons), Othella Harrington (knee), out-for-the-season May (knee surgery) and out-for-the-season Adam Morrison (torn ACL).
