Film producer to speak to youths
That's the message film producer Lisa Remington hopes to send to Salt Lake City youths expected to attend a forum she's speaking at tonight.
"I'm hoping they come away with a sense that they have a voice, no matter what they are passionate about," said Remington, a Utah native who now works as a producer in Los Angeles.
She'll be speaking at "Lights ... Camera ... Activism," a free event aimed at showing youth how to pursue their professional and political passions. The event is co-hosted by the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah and Spy Hop Productions.
Remington was a line producer for "The Freedom Files," an ACLU-produced series that tells the stories of people standing up for their civil liberties.
Anna Brower of the ACLU said the hope is to give inspiration to "young, fledgling activists looking for careers as community activists" and provide them a way to combine their passion for justice and the arts. The event is aimed at youths, but is open to people of all ages interested in film, she said.
For her part, Remington said documentary film was a natural progression after receiving a theater degree from New York University. When she moved to Los Angeles and was around like-minded people, she discovered "this is exactly what I want to be doing," she said
