School bus misuse in Davis tracked by GPS
District spokesman Chris Williams said the driver's grounds for dismissal were based on three different incidents in October where he used a Davis School District bus to transport students from a charter school. However, there are allegations that the bus misuse went on much longer than that.
Officials were able to track the misuse due to GPS devices that were installed on buses last fall.
Williams said the devices are able to not only track the buses but indicate when the bus door is opened and closed, how fast it travels and when it returns. More than 200 buses in the district are now equipped with a GPS.
After a review of the GPS data, district officials discovered the extra trips and the driver was discharged at the end of February.
