The Ultimate Game at the PGA West Stadium Course, scheduled for April 29-May 4, has been canceled.

Three Utah golfers — Tony and Gipper Finau of Salt Lake and Brady Boman of Draper — had signed up for the $2.4 million event, with $1 million going to the winner. It was to be a two-man best ball event this year, but Boman had not announced his partner yet. The entry fee was $50,000 per team.

A statement from co-owners Steve Bartkowski and Jim Thomas read: "Due to the fact many teams signed up for the Ultimate Game were unable to fulfill their commitment to pay their entry fee, we had no other choice but to cancel the event. All entry fees already paid will be returned promptly."

Last year, the Finau brothers competed in the event in Las Vegas when it was an individual event; Tony made it to the 12-man finals but did not win the $1 million first prize.

The Ultimate Game was an off-shoot of the Big Stakes best ball match-play event that was played in 2005, with Utahns Jimmy Blair and Steve Schneiter making the semifinals.
