WOMEN'S SOCCER: Southern Utah women's soccer head coach announced that defender Kimly Anderson and goal keeper Sutton Fox have been named captains for the 2008 season, beginning on Aug. 22. SUU will open the season by hosting UC Riverside. Anderson is a two-time all-conference performer and has appeared in more than 50 games for the T-Birds . Fox will assume the full-time responsibility in between the posts with the departure of Holly Senter. She has totaled 12 games for the Thunderbirds in goal.

Southern Utah recently wrapped up its spring season, headlined by a 3-2 record at the Utah State indoor tournament with wins over Utah State, Idaho State and Utah Valley. The team punctuated the season with a 3-1 win over the alumni on April 12.

FOOTBALL: Offensive lineman Matt Roan has signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings. Roan, a three-time all-Great West Conference selection, signed a non-guaranteed contract. He will attend the Vikings' mini-camp beginning May 1. A native of Dublin, Va., Roan transferred to SUU after spending a season at Virginia Tech. After joining the Thunderbirds as a tight end, he moved to offensive tackle his first season in Cedar City and went on to earn all-conference honors. He moved to center his junior year when he also took over punting duties midway through the season following an injury to punter Jason Ortiz. Last year he moved back to tackle and earned his third straight all-GWFC honor.
