High school golf: Deep Lone Peak team takes first region title
Knights win by 20 strokes, take top two individual spots
Even though the Knights didn't win that final match, they came close enough and played well enough in every match to take home the first-ever region championship topping Pleasant Grove by 20 strokes and Spanish Fork by 35.
It also helped that the Knights had the top two finishers in the medalist competition. By firing a 46- over nine holes Wednesday originally an 18-hole match, it was shortened to nine holes because of wet weather Lone Peak's Hadley Jarvis won the inaugural individual title, edging teammate Kandis King by five strokes.
Jarvis actually entered the final match trailing by a two strokes, but fired a score Wednesday that was seven shots better than King, who posted a respectable 53. Third place in the medalist battle, only one shot behind King, was Shay Young of Pleasant Grove, who finished second in Wednesday's competition with a 47.
Spanish Fork won Wednesday's final match with a score of 214, one better than Pleasant Grove and three better than Lone Peak. The Dons' Aly Tingey, playing in her first match, shot a 47 on Wednesday but was not eligible for the overall standings. However, teammates Kelsey Briggs and McKell Miner both finished in the top 10.
Although Lone Peak's Laura Woolsey and Savannah Peterson did not break the top 10, both contributed to the Knights' depth which played a big role in winning the league title.
