AMERICAN FORK — After rain on Wednesday, Region 4 was finally able to get their championship meet underway Thursday afternoon and Lone Peak came away with a few great performances of the few finals that took place during the first day of competition.

There were four finals on the track and the Knights came away with two of the four first place finishes.

Lone Peak freshman distance-runner Steve Morrin finished in first place in the boys 3200 meter. Morrin's 9 minutes 42.15-second finish was nearly four seconds ahead of Ben Felix, of American Fork, who finished in second place in last year's region meet as well. "I am excited because when I started this season I didn't know anything like this was going to happen," said Morrin. "I'm just a freshman; this is my first year running and it has just really taken off."

Lacey Cramer, a senior at Lone Peak, won the 1600-meter with a time of 5 minutes 8.9 seconds. Last year, Cramer won the 800-meter at region and she will try to defend that title when the meet resumes today. "It feels so good, all the hard work has paid off," said Cramer after receiving her medal Thursday. The other finals on the track were the boys and girls 1600-meter sprint medley. The Spanish Fork girls' team of McKenna Money, Liz Meinhart, Mallory Denning and Sonja Ponis won with a time of 4:21.82. For the boys, it was Timpanogos' team of Skyler Fairbanks, Andrew Terry, Sean Aaron and Brandon Davies that finished in 3:38.09.

The finals get underway at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon at American Fork High School.
