HYRUM, Cache County — Parents of children at Hyrum's middle school have overwhelmingly rejected a proposed dress code.

The proposal to ban jeans and allow only solid-colored shirts in certain colors at South Cache 8-9 Center failed by a vote of 412-216. The school mailed about 1,600 ballots, and more than 70 percent of the parents would have had to vote for the dress code for the proposal to pass.

The dress code would have required students to wear collared shirts in navy blue, gray, orange, white or khaki. It would have outlawed baggy clothes and logos larger than a quarter.
