Former BYU teammates Mike Weir and Dean Wilson aren't among the favorites at the U.S. Open, which begins today at Torrey Pines.

However, the two 38-year-old former Cougars are coming into the tournament near the top of their games, which could bode well for a successful week for the pair.

Weir, the 2003 Masters champion, has struggled much of the year, but is coming off a second-place finish at The Memorial Tournament in Ohio two weeks ago. He was tied for the lead on the back nine before finishing two shots behind winner Kenny Perry. He currently ranks 38th on the FedEx Cup points list.

Wilson had a similar experience last weekend at the PGA event in Memphis, which Justin Leonard won in a playoff. He was tied for the lead with four holes to play, but made some poor shots down the stretch and finished four off the winning score. He ranks 84th on the points list.

Weir will tee off at 2:03 MDT today with fellow Masters champions Trevor Immelman and Zach Johnson. Wilson, who is one of three Wilsons in the tournament along with amateur Jeff Wilson and England's Oliver Wilson, tees off at 8:22 a.m. MDT with Jason Bohn and amateur Kevin Tway.

Weir has fared well in recent U.S. Opens, making the cut five straight times with five top-10 finishes. He tied for third in 2003, tied for fourth in 2004 and tied for sixth in 2006. Last year, he finished in a tie for 20th.

Wilson has played in four U.S. Opens, missing the cut twice and finishing in a tie for 30th in 2001 and a tie for 51st last year.
