Police hope to narrow search for autistic Kamas man
Justin Bailey, 20, disappeared from his family's Kamas home Sunday about 2 p.m.
He is 5-foot-10, about 120 pounds. He has dark brown and hazel eyes. Police said Bailey was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt, jeans, black shoes with writing on them and possibly a baseball cap.
Deputies started searching truck stops and rest areas when Bailey was reported missing Sunday around 9 p.m., said Summit County Sheriff's Sgt. Brad Wilde.
Search and rescue workers and search dogs continued to comb the area Monday evening.
"One of the issues is we're just trying to narrow down the search area," Wilde said.
Bailey was reported missing in Kamas, but someone also reported possibly seeing him in Oakley, Wilde said. Monday, searchers concentrated on the area between both towns.
"That in itself is a five-mile stretch," Wilde said. A few volunteers assisted in the search efforts Monday, but police hoped to determine a more focused search area before enlisting help from more volunteers, Wilde said.
An endangered person advisory has been issued. Bailey is autistic, but Wilde said he was unsure how well the man was able to function.
After a sunny June day with temperatures in the 80s, temperatures were expected to fall to the mid-40s overnight in Summit County, according to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City.
"It hasn't been real cold or frigid," Wilde said Monday. "But he spent the night out last night. Anytime someone is missing we're concerned about their well-being."
Officials planned to suspend the search at dark and resume their efforts this morning.
