The board of directors of the Sunstone Education Foundation announced Stephen R. Carter as the new director of publications and editor. Mary Ellen Robertson was selected as the new director of outreach and symposia.

Sunstone is a nonprofit corporation that publishes Sunstone Magazine and sponsors the Salt Lake Sunstone Symposium and regional symposia. Sunstone offers a forum that aims to facilitate "independent discussions of Mormonism and Mormon culture."

The board of directors expects the new directors to implement strategic plans to boost Sunstone's position to to the "primary independent forum for open, thoughtful, and constructive discussion of Mormon-related current events, contemporary issues, scholarship and art."

Carter will take over as editor Aug. 11. Robertson began working earlier this week as the symposia director, planning this year's symposium.
