Young drowning victim at Sugarhouse Park is identified
Salt Lake police have identified the child who drowned at Sugarhouse Park on Sunday.
Deja Jubiate, a 17-month-old girl, fell into a pond after she wandered away from a family party while the group gathered to sing "Happy Birthday," Salt Lake police said.
A man pulled the girl from the pond, near 1300 East and 2100 South, around 6:50 p.m. Police said she had been missing for five to 10 minutes.
Jubiate was unconscious when she was taken by ambulance to Primary Children's Medical Center where she died later that evening.
