Sex offender facing 3 new charges

An arrest warrant has been issued for a registered sex offender who is wanted on three new sex-related charges. Salt Lake police filed charges of rape of a child, sodomy of a child and rape Tuesday in 3rd District Court against Don Alton Sorenson III, 24. All three charges are first-degree felonies.

In court documents, police say Sorenson engaged in sexual activities with two teen girls on separate occasions in 2006 and 2007. A third girl who was also involved with Sorenson alerted Salt Lake police when she discovered that one of the girls was under the age of 14.

Police say he met the girls through mutual acquaintances who had MySpace accounts.

Sorenson is listed on the Utah Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registry for attempted unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a class A misdemeanor. According to the registry, he is currently on probation for this incident. Sorenson is a 5-foot-7 Caucasian with blond hair and blue eyes, weighing about 160 pounds.
