No charges expected for Box Elder County desert land sales
County Attorney Stephen Hadfield said it's likely that those involved didn't know the sales weren't legal because they failed to file a subdivision plat.
Parcels of 160-acres were subdivided and sold over the Internet to more than 3,000 buyers. A letter later sent to buyers by county commissioners explained the problem and said the land had no proper utilities or road access.
Buyers paid as little as $25 for a quarter acre and as much as $15,000 for 160 acres of land in the county's west desert.
