'My View' column defies logic

Mark Danenhauer's "My View" (July 2) that claims shale oil "squanders water" was comical in its utter lack of logic.

He states shale oil conversion at current technology has two forms — one in-situ and one above ground. He goes on to describe the massive amounts of water required for above-ground conversion and then admits that because in-situ has not been done on a large scale, it is not known "the amount of water required for it."

Then, in his very next breath, he states, "the fact remains that processing oil shale into oil requires an incredible amount of water." This is comical. In his previous sentence he acknowledges it's not known how much water will be required in one of the two methods.

Logic is our friend.
