Five people police say were involved in an extensive drug-dealing operation are facing federal charges.

Kane County sheriff's deputies stopped three cars headed toward Arizona on June 20. During a search of the vehicles, officers found guns and $49,000 in cash belonging to a Salt Lake drug dealer, according to a complaint filed Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Luz Adete, Jorge Cuevas-Terrazas and Daniel Gutierrez-Rivera admitted to working for a Salt Lake drug dealer and told police the money was headed to Tucson, Ariz., where the drivers planned to pick up between 100 and 200 pounds of marijuana and return to Salt Lake, according to the complaint.

Police later arrested Alberto Anzaldo-Villanueva and Roberto Escudero-Jimenez at a Salt Lake area home, where officers found "extensive evidence of drug distribution" including marijuana and more than a pound of high-grade methamphetamine, according to the complaint.

The group faces charges of conspiracy to commit bulk cash smuggling and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and marijuana.
