Stimulus a way to buy votes
The economic-stimulus plan is really a political-stimulus plan for the Republican Party and the war in Iraq. If we drop into full-fledged recession, the Republicans will be blamed and McCain cannot be elected. If Bush can keep the financial markets from collapse before the election, then possibly the people will elect McCain.
It's a wonderful thing to be able to use the national treasury to write checks for one's political party and friends. I'd like to be president some day.
