Owlz' Contreras slaps game-winning single
All nine batters for the Owlz got a hit on the night to help them win their third game of this week's four-game homestand against Great Falls.
The Voyagers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second by capitalizing on two Owlz errors. But in the bottom of the second inning Orem fought back when center fielder Rian Kiniry hit a double to right-center, bringing in two runs. Moments later the Owlz tied the game at 3-3 when shortstop Darwin Perez ripped a triple to bring in Kiniry from second base.
Great Falls' Doug Thennis hit an RBI double off the wall in center field to put the Voyagers on top 4-3 in the third.
But in the bottom of the third the Owlz matched their output from the second inning, scoring three runs off the bat of right fielder Angel Castillo. With two runners on Castillo hit a deep homer to put Orem ahead 6-4.
In the fifth inning, Voyagers second baseman Jesus Avila hit a double to the gap in right-center, which brought in two runs to tie the game at 6-6.
But the Voyagers fired back, scoring three runs off the bat of Tyler Kuhn, who hit a triple with the bases loaded to put the game within one run. Moments later Kyle Shelton hit a blooper to center field, and although four Owlz players had a chance at it, the ball dropped between them all to tie the game at 10-10.
Three walks in a row loaded the bases to give Contreras a shot at ending the game without going into extra innings.
Jacobo led the Owlz, going 3-for-5 on the night with a double.
The Owlz will take on Billings at home today at 7 p.m.
