Fun is the key word for Less Than Jake
"It was a hard to realize that it's true," said Wasilewski during a phone call from the band's tour van on "some highway" in the United States. "When we decided to do the new album, we wanted to get away from what we were doing in the past. We wanted to get back to the aggressive style of music we liked to play and not just write chorus-driven songs with radio-play in mind.
"Well, when we released the new album earlier this year, we had some people asking us why we sold out. Which was funny because in the years prior, we were writing songs that we thought would get on the radio and during that time, other fans would write us and ask why we sold out.
"So, there's no pleasing everyone."
Still, Wasilewski said the ska-punk band Wasilewski, drummer Vinnie Fiorello, trombonist Buddy Schaub, guitarist Christopher DeMakes and bassist Roger Manganelli are proud of the new album, "GNV FLA."
"The album is about where we came from," said Wasilewski. "Its about Gainesville, Fla. And all the songs are about the city and things that have happened in our career."
"We started the label this year," Wasilewski said. "We had thought about releasing the album on different labels but decided to do it ourselves. That way, we had no one to answer to but ourselves. And it was fun."
Fun is the key word for the guys in Less Than Jake. "We're still here after 16 years. And it's fun. When it stops being fun, then we have no business making CDs and playing gigs."
