ST. GEORGE — Two adults were thrown from a vehicle, and one of them killed, while a 6-year-old passenger remained inside a car as it rolled down an embankment early Friday.

Patricia Gonzalez, 38, of Pahrump, Nev., died from injuries sustained in the crash just outside of St. George on I-15, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Todd Johnson. Neither of the adults was wearing a seat belt; however, the child was restrained and received only minor injuries.

Police believe the driver may have fallen asleep, causing the car to drift off the freeway about 6 a.m. When he awoke, he overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll down the embankment and come to rest on its roof, Johnson said.
