Idaho State Police said an Orem woman died Friday night at Ogden's McKay-Dee Hospital after being run over by a truck driven by her daughter on a Bear Lake beach earlier in the day.

Michele Pereira was one of five family members injured when her daughter, 25-year-old Melissa Peterson, also from Orem, accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake of her truck while backing-up to an awning at a North Shore beach camping site, near St. Charles, Idaho.

The daughter of the driver, a 1-year-old infant, sustained injuries serious enough to warrant a helicopter transfer from the scene to Salt Lake's Primary Children's Hospital. Another victim who is a sister of the driver, Nicole Pereira March of Springville, was treated Friday at Bear Lake Hospital in Montpelier and released. Carlos Pereira, the driver's father, and Chantal Pereira, another sister, both from Orem, were treated on the scene.

A family friend who asked not to be identified said the 1-year-old suffered a fractured leg and slight skull fracture. He said she underwent surgery Friday night for the leg injury and is doing well.

The friend said the child could be released as early as today.
