Weir ends tied for 39th
The gale-force winds played havoc with his game, and he struggled in with a 75 to finish at 16-over-par 296. That put him in a tie for 39th place after starting the day in a tie for 26th. It's his fifth-best finish at the British Open in his 10th straight appearance in the tournament.
"It doesn't even die down at night," Weir said, speaking of the winds. "It blows seven straight days, nonstop, most of the night, doesn't slow at all. I've never seen anything like it."
Weir started off with a bogey at the first hole and bogeyed No. 6 before making his only birdie of the day at the par-3 7th hole. However, he double-bogeyed the 8th hole and bogeyed Nos. 14 and 16 on the back nine.
Weir said he has spent most of the summer at home in Draper, playing just three tournaments since the first of June. This week he'll play in the Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in front of his home fans. Then he'll be back in Utah for a week before playing in the PGA Championship.
