What began as a terrible experience for our family has turned into a wonderful display of goodness. The situation with my 9-year-old daughter and the float has had a beautiful resolution ("Racism in Days of '47," Readers' Forum, July 20). We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to the Deseret News, to our local float committee for their sincere apologies and hard work, the Days of '47 for their immediate response and concern and an extra special thanks to the Humane Society for their kindness and generosity in making the day wonderful once again.

One of our greatest sorrows was that the 24th of July would be ruined for our family forever, filled with unpleasant memories and hurt feelings. Instead, the 24th of July will always be a reminder of the genuine goodness and compassion of people. We have been touched by the outpouring of love and concern and feel very blessed to live in a city so full of kindness. Salt Lake City still has the pioneering spirit of being helpful, thoughtful and caring. I believe our pioneering ancestors, of every color, would be proud. Thank you!
