Remember pioneers' struggles

As Utahns celebrate Pioneer Day on Thursday by attending the Days of '47 Parade in downtown Salt Lake City, Pioneer Heritage Days at This Is the Place Heritage Park and several other events being held in Utah, we should all take a minute out of our day and remember the hardships and countless struggles that the pioneers went through in order to make a better life for themselves and their families and to practice the religion they believed in.

As a descendant of several pioneers who migrated to Utah between 1847 and 1856, I am thankful for all the pioneers did to make Utah a great place and the legacy they left behind that has made Utah what it is today. So while we are commemorating the 161st anniversary of the first pioneers entering the Salt Lake Valley, let us remember that without them and the sacrifices they made, the great state of Utah wouldn't exist.
