In response to Dennis Kostecki (Readers' Forum, July 20), I think it is unbelievable for the United States to consider getting rid of the death penalty. The death penalty is one of the best ways to punish those guilty of murder. It lets criminals know that if they take someone's life, then they might lose their own. If we decide to give mercy to a murderer, then we deny the victim and society justice.

No society can last long without justice. I just hope we always remember that.
