Davis may move youth justice center

FARMINGTON — Davis County commissioners have approved plans to consider moving the Children's Justice Center from the county campus to a nearby location.

"This is all part of the exploratory process," Commissioner Louenda Downs said Tuesday.

The $9,500 contract with Ridgeline Design Architects will help the county decide on options for the center, either by moving the recently renovated home that the center occupies, moving the staff to a new home or building a new facility, said Marshall Scott, Davis County's facilities management director.

The center serves as a safe place for specially trained investigators to interview children who have been victims of abuse. It's a comfortable location and is often praised by prosecutors and law enforcement.

But as the county, city and Davis School District continue to plan for the future of historic downtown Farmington, city officials have expressed interest in locating a new city hall on the Davis County campus.
