BOUNTIFUL — Police are searching for what they believe may be a mother-son crime team.

Investigators looking into nearly a dozen home burglaries in Davis County and parts of Salt Lake County said they have linked the crimes to a woman who appears to be in her 50s or 60s, and a man who appears to be her son in his 30s.

"They look like a mother and son," Bountiful police detective Chris Lund said Wednesday. "They've done it before, too."

Lund said the spree began June 10 with some burglaries in Bountiful. The pair broke into a home, taking electronics, jewelry and credit cards, and loaded them into a van, he said.

"They stole the van and broke into another home five blocks away," Lund said.

The same crime was repeated twice.

"In the Sugar House area, they broke in and stole two TVs and a bunch of stuff and loaded it in a Lexus and stole the Lexus. That Lexus was seen in a burglary in Bountiful," he said. "They're driving around neighborhoods waiting for people to drive away and hitting their house after they've left."

Bountiful police linked the crimes together, and Lund is fielding reports from Sandy, Salt Lake City, Centerville and unincorporated Davis County. The stolen cars have been recovered, but evidence is scarce.

"They're wearing gloves," Lund said.

Police recently got a break when one of the stolen credit cards was used at a Wal-Mart store in West Jordan. Surveillance video tracked them through the store picking up numerous items, including a $900 big-screen TV. But the victims' stolen MasterCard was rejected, and the man and woman left empty-handed.

Lund fears the duo may have left the state, since no similar burglaries have been reported since July 10.

Police are hoping to identify them. Anyone with information is asked to call Bountiful police at 801-298-6007. Callers can remain anonymous, Lund said.
