Scott Burt, 31, one of the Utah Grizzlies' top veteran players last season, has signed with the ECHL Alaska Aces as a player/assistant coach for the 2008-09 season.

The 11-year pro won Kelly Cup championships with the Idaho Steelheads before signing with the Grizzlies last season and posting his ECHL career-high of 60 points as Utah enjoyed its best season in the AA league, making the National Conference Finals.

Burt tied with Ryan Kinasewich as Utah's top scorer in the regular season but scored just two points in 13 playoff games after being injured.

"We just have to go out and find another leader," said Utah coach Jason Christie Wednesday.

Christie said he had talked this summer with Burt, was aware that the free agent had visited a couple of other teams and that Alaska had flown him and his wife to Anchorage for a visit recently.

Christie said he will announce his first signings for the 2008-09 season in the next couple of weeks.
