Miller's condition may be updated
And the fresh news could possibly come from the man himself.
That scenario has been speculated about though not confirmed nor denied by Jazz officials since late Thursday afternoon when a press conference for an undisclosed reason was announced for today at EnergySolutions Arena.
The e-mail announcement was unusually vague, only saying, "The media is invited to a press conference regarding The Larry H. Miller Group of Companies ...."
Linda Luchetti, vice president of communications for Miller's group, said she could not give any further information when asked about the nature of the conference.
The 64-year-old Miller, owner of the Utah Jazz and a variety of other businesses, has not made a public appearance since being hospitalized on June 10 due to complications from type 2 diabetes. His only public statement since came via a press release in mid-July when it was announced that his oldest son, Greg Miller, would take over as the CEO of Miller's sports and business empire.
At that July 16 press conference, Greg Miller told the media that his dad's health "continues to improve," and that the elder Miller was recuperating in a local hospital and working with a physical therapist, "regaining his energy."
In his absence, Miller's business has been tight-lipped about his health and well-being status aside from an occasional update. Numerous interview requests, including by the Deseret News, for the usually media-accommodating sports and business magnate have not been granted while Miller has dealt with his medical condition this summer in private.
Though he didn't participate in person, Miller was kept up-to-date by Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor and president Randy Rigby on the franchise's draft, free-agency moves and Deron Williams' contract extension negotiations.
Along with the Jazz, which he bought outright in 1986, Miller owns numerous automobile dealerships and movie theaters, the Salt Lake Bees, Miller Motorsports Park, EnergySolutions Arena, KJZZ-TV, and the Jordan Commons entertainment complex in Sandy.
