LEHI — Mayor Howard Johnson's request for a $51,000 annual salary was considered excessive by a committee studying City Council and mayoral pay raises, but the elected officials may get a raise.

The committee recommended a raise to $1,500 a month or $18,000 a year for the mayor and $1,000 a month or $12,000 a year for members of the City Council, committee member Ken Greenwood said. Benefits would remain as they are.

The committee also recommended that council members get another $200 a month for travel and the mayor an additional $500 per month.

Johnson had requested the salary hike from his $1,000 monthly pay. Council members now get $750 a month. The council is scheduled to hold a public hearing tonight, then make a final decision, finance director Ron Foggin said.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 153 N. 100 East.
