Utah Utes football: Johnson and Sakoda honored by MWC
Johnson was named the league's offensive player of the week. He completed 21-of-33 passes for 305 yards and a touchdown.
Sakoda earned special teams honors after tying a school record with four field goals, including a career-long 53-yarder against the Wolverines. He averaged 47 yards on six punts and pinned three kicks inside the 20.
His contribution was huge, said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham, who noted that both players were very deserving of the awards.
Johnson played especially well in the first half, he added, and did a good job leading the team.
Sakoda has now won eight weekly honors from the MWC, while Johnson is a two-time honoree.
Any time you can go in, play and get that recognition it's always a fun thing, Johnson said. But we know it only happens when you win. So our goal is to go out there, keep winning ballgames, keep having fun and keep practicing well every week.
