Utah airmen and soldiers deploying to assist Texas hurricane victims
LEHI A 22-member team of Utah Air and Army National Guard airmen and soldiers will deploy early Wednesday for at least two weeks in support of Hurricane Ike victims in the Texas Gulf Coast region, Guard officials announced Tuesday.
Team members of the Lehi-based 85th Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team will assist civilian authorities with detection, assessment and response capabilities for hazardous materials.
The deployment is part of a nationwide agreement called the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, which matches needs with assets and capabilities in the event of a natural disaster or civil emergency.
