WEST VALLEY CITY — Three people were arrested and police here were looking for two others Monday afternoon after a lone officer found himself confronted with five suspects and a stolen vehicle.

A West Valley officer was checking license plates in the parking lot of Wal-Mart, 3180 S. 5600 West, when he came across a stolen car with five people inside. The officer was waiting for backup when one of the occupants got out of the car and walked inside the store. Seeing the door open and fearing the others might leave, the officer confronted them at gunpoint, according to West Valley police.

Two of the suspects ran. The two remaining were held until backup arrived. The man who walked inside the store was arrested when he came out.

Two men and a juvenile were arrested on warrants. Additional charges were pending Monday afternoon. Investigators also found a loaded .45-caliber handgun inside the stolen vehicle as well as burglary tools.
