'N+' offers hours of challenges
Many may remember the "N" downloadable PC game, where a little ninja leaps, climbs, slips, falls and avoids obstacles while gathering gold through intense runs through mazes and pitfalls.
Well, the game has now been formatted and reworked for handheld platforms.
The DS version (there is also a version for PSP) doesn't use the DS stylus but instead incorporates the control buttons for the ninja movements throughout the more than 200 puzzles.
Oh, and those puzzles are timed, so the scores are based on completion as well as how fast the gamers can finish.
Players can also play head-to-head with friends and family members using the multicard DS wireless option. In addition, with the wireless router or Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector and broadband access, gamers can join others in online play.
Graphics: The look of the game is the same as the PC, which means the ninja is sleek, black and nimble, and the scenery is minimal. But the gameplay is still as addictive as the original.
Audio: The computer music and the blinging, sliding and exploding sound effects are unobtrusive and add to the sensory aspect of the game, but is not necessary. Some may find turning down the volume on the DS helps them concentrate on the game.
Parent's take: "N+" is a fun exercise in finger-eye coordination and utilizes the gamer's problem-solving skills. And while there are times when a mistake will cause the ninja to blow up in little bits, there is no blood or cries of anguish to disturb the most innocent of players.
Final word: For under $20, "N+" gives the gamer hours of challenges. It's money well spent.
