Choose conservative course
My concern deals with the Boy Scouts of America and liberal activist judges. In 2000 the Supreme Court ruled in "The Boy Scouts of America v. Dale" that the BSA had a constitutional right to freedom of association and thus could expel a gay assistant Scoutmaster. This ruling also affirmed that BSA can have a religious oath as part of its membership requirement. Most active members of the LDS Church have participated in BSA activities. Scouting is a worthwhile program.
What is critical is in the 2000 Supreme Court decision the vote was 5-4. Four activist liberal judges sought to destroy the BSA and rewrite the Constitution. In all likelihood if these judges had been in the majority, BSA would cease to exist today. So once again we have a difficult choice to make. Do we elect two of the most liberal members of the U.S. Senate and accept who they will most certainly nominate for vacancies on the Supreme Court? Or do we say "no" to more liberal activist Supreme Court justices and Federal District Judges and choose a more conservative course for our nation?
