'General Hospital: Nightshift' travels back in time

The late-night spin-off of the daytime soap "General Hospital" is flashing back to the 1980s — shoulder pads, big hair and all.

The trip to the 1980s happens when ailing superspy Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) lapses into a coma and dreams of the old days.

The episode (airing Tuesday at 9 p.m. MDT on SoapNet) is also weaving in favorite "GH" characters from the era — Sean and Tiffany Donely (John D. Reilly and Sharon Wyatt), Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), Mac Scorpio (John York) and Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary).

For Wyatt, the episode is giving her one night to reprise Tiffany after stepping away from the glitzy maven 13 years ago.

"It was very comfortable, and it was very familiar because it was like we never left," says Wyatt, who earned a 1994 Emmy nomination for playing Tiffany. "We picked right up where we left off."

Though Wyatt was reunited with Reilly when the two played other characters on NBC's "Passions" a couple of years ago, she hadn't worked with her other former "GH" co-stars in well over a decade.

"John and I would love to come back to 'General Hospital' at some point, I'm sure," she says. "Maybe someday. It would be nice."

She played Tiffany on "GH" from 1981 to 1995, on and off. Now living in Tennessee, Wyatt says she's still recognized often for the role.

But the recognition doesn't surprise her at all.

"When you're on a soap, you're on every day, and people think they know you personally," she says. "They'll come up to you because you are more open.

"They think they do know you (and that's) a good thing.... Once you're on a soap, you're known and that never goes away."
